What a Deep Carpet Clean Actually Looks Like
The Chem-Dry Hot Carbonating Extraction process in action — the deep clean we use instead of high-water steam cleaning across the Southern Highlands.
The Chem-Dry Hot Carbonating Extraction process — the same low-moisture deep clean we use in every Southern Highlands home.
The Benefits of Chem-Dry Carpet Steam Cleaning
Here is what sets a Chem-Dry deep clean apart from a conventional steam clean.
Carpets Dry in 1–2 Hours
Our Hot Carbonating Extraction process uses a fraction of the water of steam cleaning, so your carpets are dry quickly and you can be back on your floors the same day.
Cleaning and Protection
Every clean can be finished with carpet protection — a protective film over the fibres that stops spills and soiling getting deep into the carpet. There is no change to the look or feel of your carpet.
It Prolongs the Life of Your Carpet
Cleaning your carpets regularly will prolong the life of your valuable carpets, saving you what could be thousands of dollars over their lifespan.
Three Decades of Local Experience
Tony Woods has been a Chem-Dry franchisee for three decades, cleaning Southern Highlands homes the whole time. No subcontractors, no trainees.
No Soapy Residue
The Natural is pH-balanced and leaves no sticky detergent film behind — so your carpets do not attract dirt back the way they do after a detergent-based clean.
Satisfaction Guarantee
If you are not happy with the cleaning results, we will return and re-clean free of charge.
What People Mean When They Ask for Steam Cleaning
Almost nobody who searches for carpet steam cleaning actually wants steam. What they want is a genuine deep clean — a machine that pulls the soil, the dust and the embedded grit out of the carpet, rather than another vacuum over the top of it.
Most machines sold as steam cleaners are really hot water extraction units. They drive heated water and detergent into the carpet under pressure and then vacuum it back out. Done carefully, that works. Done carelessly, it leaves your carpet wet for a day and a half and a detergent film behind that attracts dirt straight back.
We keep the deep clean and change the part that causes the problems.
Steam Cleaning vs Hot Carbonating Extraction
Same goal — get the soil out. Very different amount of water.
Water
A conventional steam or hot water clean uses a high volume of water at high pressure. Chem-Dry's Hot Carbonating Extraction uses roughly 80% less water to do the same job.
Drying Time
High water volume means 12 to 24 hours of damp carpet, damp underlay and damp floorboards. Our process leaves carpets dry in 1–2 hours.
What Does the Cleaning
Steam and hot water lean on heat and pressure. Chem-Dry leans on carbonation — millions of bubbles that lift soil to the surface, so it works at lower moisture and gentler temperatures.
What Is Left Behind
Detergent cleaning leaves a soapy residue in the pile. Sticky carpet gets dirty again faster, which is why a freshly steam-cleaned carpet can look dull within weeks. The Natural leaves no residue.
Drying Time Is the Part That Does the Damage
Wet carpet is not only inconvenient — it is the part of a steam clean that causes lasting problems. Water sitting in an underlay breeds mould and bacteria, and the musty smell that follows a badly done steam clean is usually exactly that.
Add a Southern Highlands winter, doors closed and the heating on, and a one-day job quietly becomes three days of damp carpet, damp underlay and a house that smells like it.
Because our process puts so little water in, the underlay and the floorboards stay effectively dry. You are back on your floors the same afternoon, and there is nothing left behind to grow.
What a Deep Carpet Clean Involves
Six steps, in this order, every time.
Pre-Inspection
We walk the carpet with you and note the areas that concern you — traffic lanes, pet areas, the spot you have been looking at for months.
Power Vacuuming
A dry pass with a powerful vacuum first. This is the step most quick cleans skip, and it is the one that removes the most soil.
Pre-Treatment
A pre-treatment matched to your carpet type goes down on the marks and traffic lanes and is given time to work.
Hot Carbonating Extraction
The full carpet is cleaned with The Natural. The carbonation lifts soil to the surface and it is extracted away in the same pass.
Spot Treatment
Any stubborn marks are given a stronger, targeted treatment — with your agreement, and after a test, every time.
Grooming and Drying
The pile is brushed back into place so it dries evenly and stands up properly. Most carpets are dry within 1–2 hours.
More Carpet and Floor Care
